The Iowa room has been interpreted as a parlor around 1800. Sewing projects and related sewing tools rest on a chair and show one type of activity fashionable women might have worked on while entertaining. Venetian blinds, shown on the windows, were popular in Europe and America in the 18th century. Note the plain green wallpaper edged with a classical egg and dart border, a form of wall decoration during this time.

The Iowa Period Room Virtual Tour is a gift of the Iowa Society DAR.
