Descriptions of Funds

Choose a fund from the following items or scroll down for a complete listing of descriptions. Funds are listed alphabetically in order of placement on the Donations and Contributions for Special Committees and Funds (DEV-1003) gift form.

Best Friend – Minimum Pin Donation Amount for the Appropriate Fund

Members can become a Best Friend of a particular fund by contributing at least the minimum pin qualification amount two or more times to the same fund.

DAR Library

Donations assist in the purchasing of special equipment and out-of-print book acquisitions along with other important items necessary for the operation of the Library.

Friends of the DAR Library - $200 minimum for pin

Those who wish to make a contribution of $200 or more to the Friends of the Library may purchase their choice of either the Friends of the Library Pin or the Library Life Member Pin from J.E. Caldwell & Co.

For those who would like to make continued donations of $200 or more to the Friends of the Library, a Best Friend pin and bar may be purchased. The Best Friend pin is a one-time purchase and the engraved bars are added for each $200 donation.

DAR Museum

Adopt-An-Object - $100 minimum for pin

Funds the conservation of objects in the collection. A complete list is available through the DAR Museum Office.

Friends of DAR Museum - $200 minimum for pin

Gifts pay for the acquisition and conservation of museum objects.

Museum Exhibition Fund - $200 minimum for pin

Contributions go toward the cost of exhibitions, publications, educational programs and other museum activities. 

Museum Keeper - $500 minimum for pin

Funds finance the purchase of the rare and valuable Simon Willard Lighthouse Clock and other exceptional items for the Museum’s collection.

DAR Project Patriot - $100 minimum for pin

Gifts support America’s men and women serving abroad. Project Patriot provides wounded active duty military personnel at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany with personal care packages that include much-needed items such as clothing, snacks, cards and other gifts.

Friends of American History - $100 minimum for pin

Contributions are used to fund cash awards and any other prizes for the American History Essay Contest and the Christopher Columbus Essay Contest.

Friends of American Indian Scholarship Fund - $200 minimum for pin

Provides a $500 college scholarship per semester to Native American students of any age, from any tribe in any state, who are in financial need and have a GPA of at least 2.75.

Friends of Americana Collection - $100 minimum for pin

Donations allow for the purchase of early American manuscripts and imprints to be added to the collection.

Button Gwinnett - $200 minimum for pin

Contributions assist with the acquisition costs incurred with the purchase of Button Gwinnett’s signature for the Americana Collection. This completes the NSDAR collection of the signatures of every signer of the Declaration of Independence.

Friends of DAR Magazine - $100 minimum for pin

Funds are used for the endowment fund for the DAR Magazine.

Friends of American Spirit – 5 new subscriptions plus $100 minimum contribution for pin

Allows members to support the award-winning magazine by providing additional funding and by introducing new subscribers.

Friends of DAR Scholarship - $200 minimum for pin

Gifts provide the opportunity for students to attain higher education. In order to establish a named scholarship, an initial contribution of at least $50,000 is required.

Friends of DAR Schools - $200 minimum for pin

Supports DAR-affiliated schools, which include Berry College (GA), Crossnore School (NC), Hillside School (MA), Hindman Settlement School (KY), Kate Duncan Smith DAR School (AL), and Tamassee DAR School (SC).  The donor may designate the gift to one of the DAR Schools or may divide it among the schools. The donation may further be placed in either the Endowment Fund or the General Fund of the school.

Friends of Junior Membership - $100 minimum for pin

Contributions support an endowed fund from which the interest income is reserved for Junior Membership projects at Kate Duncan Smith DAR School and Tamassee DAR School. The Helen Pouch Memorial Fund provides scholarships, medical aid and general financial assistance to the two DAR Schools. The annual Junior commitment totals more than $42,000. Meeting this commitment is a combined effort by Juniors through their fund raising projects, by chapters through contributions for Chapter Achievement Award credit and by individuals.

Friends of Seimes Technology Center - $100 minimum for pin

Donations provide funding for subscriptions to online genealogical databases, the purchase of microfilmed and microfiched historical records and equipment needs of the center.

Friends of Veterans - $100 minimum for pin

Donations provide funding for DAR projects in support of veterans, including enabling those who have been selected by the DAR Service for Veterans Committee as national award winners to attend the ceremonies at Continental Congress by covering the costs of their transportation and lodging.

Investment Trust Fund (A Legacy Preserved) - $200 minimum for pin

Contributions support an invested fund whose income is used to finance the general needs and work of the National Society, including the maintenance of its properties. The principal of the fund is held and invested in perpetuity and only the income expended.

Membership Challenge - $500 minimum for pin

Gifts assist in the reduction of backlogged supplemental papers by hiring temporary genealogical assistance.

NSDAR Archives Fund - $100 minimum for pin

Funds purchase documents, imprints, or objects for the National Society archival collections, conservation of accessions or acquisition of items necessary for the maintenance of the archival facility.

NSDAR General Operating Fund

Donate Online

Gifts ensure the continuance of high quality programs and services offered to communities and members by the National Society. Contributions also help to maintain the grounds and infrastructure of National Headquarters.

President General’s Project Open Doors of Hospitality  - $50 minimum for pin, $1000 minimum for benefactor pin

Donations provide for the multi-year restoration and renovation of NSDAR Headquarters in Washington, D.C. These buildings are the largest complex in the world owned and maintained exclusively by women. Memorial Continental Hall and Constitution Hall are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and are recognized for their many exemplary contributions to the community and nation as well as their superior example of architectural beauty in the neo-classical style.

Registrar General’s Project - $200 minimum for pin

Funds are used to place Revolutionary War ancestor data on microfiche. A gift of $200 or more meets pin qualification and allows for a name to be placed on a plaque at NSDAR Headquarters as Life Member, In Honor of or In Memory of.
