The Flag of the United States of America

This committee was established in 1909 to promote and encourage a strong patriotic feeling and respect for the Flag of the United States of America. The principal objectives are to 'keep the Flag flying,' to protect it under all conditions, to insure its correct use and display, and to educate children and adults in the authorized rules of the Flag Code adopted by the United States Congress. (House Document No. 96-144, 96th Congress, 1st Session, April 5, 1979)

DAR publishes a leaflet about the U.S. Flag Code, which is distributed to institutions, businesses, and individuals. DAR members present Flags to new citizens at naturalization ceremonies, schools, youth organizations, historical sites, museums, veterans' homes, and hospitals. Braille Flags are given to schools and institutions for the blind.
