Do you like sharing American history with the public? Researching decorative arts? Keeping track of numbers? If you want to use your skills and gain new ones in a museum setting, we have a place for you!

Volunteers

Volunteers at the DAR Museum provide a valuable resource to a non-profit organization while gaining and honing their skills. Volunteers assist with family, school, and Girl Scout programming. Volunteers are self-scheduled and the time commitment varies according to volunteer availability. Past experience working with children is encouraged. Successful applications should have an interest in history and/or decorative arts. This position requires flexibility, timeliness, creativity and enthusiasm for working with the public. Applicants may be asked to have a background check. Positions available immediately. Contact [email protected] for more information.

Internships

Undergraduate and graduate students interested in gaining experience in American history, decorative arts, education, and collections management should consider an internship with the DAR Museum. Internships are unpaid, but academic credit can be arranged in cooperation with your institution. Current internships are listed here: http://www.dar.org/internships.

Docents

Share your love of history! The DAR Museum is looking for tour guides to join its volunteer docent program. Docents give tours of the DAR Museum, focusing primarily on the 31 period rooms. Docents volunteer twice a month and benefit from continuing education in the decorative arts, history, and museum education. New docents are required to attend a four day training seminar. Volunteer shifts are self-scheduled based on availability. All persons age 18 or over are welcome to apply. We are now accepting applications on a rolling basis. Application form available below.
