As one of the most prominent American decorative arts museums in the country, the DAR Museum is eager to provide opportunities for area students and museum enthusiasts to contribute to the study of our country's material culture. Whether you are an undergraduate or an enthusiastic museum-goer, there is something here for you. Potential volunteers should contact the museum at (202) 879-3240.
DAR Museum Docents provide an invaluable link between our visitors and the collection. Trained in the decorative arts and tour techniques, docents offer guided tours of the 31 museum period rooms. DAR Members volunteer about 2 days a month and serve walk-in visitors as well as special groups and school children. New docents participate in a four-day training class on the museum collection, while experienced docents benefit from monthly educational meetings and trips to local museums and cultural attractions. Docent training takes place as needed. For more information, please contact the Assistant Curator of Education at 202-879-3341 or email museum@dar.org.
Applicants must be active members of the DAR.
