The following scholarships have specific requirements for eligibility. A separate application must be submitted for each scholarship in this group. Please read carefully:
Margaret Howard Hamilton Scholarship
The Margaret Howard Hamilton Scholarship is awarded to a graduating high school senior who has been accepted into the Harvey and Bernice Jones Learning Center, housing the Ben Caudle Learning Program at the University of the Ozarks, Clarksville, Arkansas. Applications must be requested directly through the Learning Center upon acceptance into this program for learning disabled students. This award is $1,000 annually for up to four years with annual transcript review by the National Chairman required for renewal.
Lillian and Arthur Dunn Scholarship
The Lillian and Arthur Dunn Scholarship is a $2,000 scholarship awarded for up to four years to well qualified, deserving sons and daughters of members of the NSDAR for four years of college. Renewal is conditional upon maintenance of a GPA of 3.25. Outstanding recipients pursuing graduate study may reapply each year for an additional period of up to four years of study. DAR Member Number of mother, who is a current dues paying member, must be on the application.
Madeline Pickett (Halbert) Cogswell Nursing Scholarship
The Madeline Pickett (Halbert) Cogswell Nursing Scholarship is awarded to students who are accepted or enrolled in an accredited school of nursing. Applicants must be members, descendents of members or be eligible for membership in NSDAR. DAR Member Number must be on the Application.
This is a one-time award of $1000.
Nellie Love Butcher Music Scholarship
The Nellie Love Butcher Music Scholarship as a one-time preferred amount of up to $5000 which shall be given annually to a male or female music student who is pursuing an education in piano or voice. Special consideration shall be given to students currently attending the Duke Ellington School of the Performing Arts, Washington, DC. A performance CD (compact disc) must be submitted with the application. Click here for CD submission instructions. This substantial scholarship is for one year, and is not automatically renewable; however, recipients may reapply for consideration each year, for four years based on maintaining a 3.0 grade point average.
Arthur Lockwood Beneventi Law Scholarship
The Arthur Lockwood Beneventi Law Scholarship is a one-time preferred amount $2,000 scholarship awarded to a student who is either enrolled in or attends an accredited law school and has a minimum GPA of 3.25. The scholarship is not automatically renewable; however, recipients may reapply for consideration each year.
Mary Elizabeth Lockwood Beneventi MBA Scholarship
The Mary Elizabeth Lockwood Beneventi MBA Scholarship is a one-time preferred amount $2,000 scholarship for a student attending graduate school full time in an accredited college or university and majoring in business administration.
The applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.25. The scholarship is not automatically renewable, however, recipients may reapply for consideration each year.
William Robert Findley Graduate Chemistry Scholarship
The William Robert Findley Graduate Chemistry Scholarship is a one-time preferred amount $2,000 scholarship for a student attending graduate school full time in an accredited college or university and majoring in chemistry. The
applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.25. The scholarship is not automatically renewable, however, recipients may reapply for consideration each year.
Michael T. and Mary L. Cloyd Scholarship
A one-time only, preferred amount award of $3,000 to a student with a
minimum 3.0 average at the third year level of undergraduate study or studying at the graduate level studying in the field of library science.
Edward G. and Helen A. Borgens Elementary and Secondary Teacher Education Scholarships
Two one-time, preferred amount awards of up to $1,500 for students twenty-five (25) years of age or older. One award is given to students
studying to teach at the elementary school level, the other to students studying to teach at the secondary level. All applicants must have at
least a 3.50 GPA, be at least a college sophomore, and attend or plan on attending an accredited college or university. The award is based
on academic merit and is not automatically renewable; however, recipients may reapply for consideration as long as they meet the eligibility
requirements.

DAR American Indian Scholarship
The American Indians Committee of the DAR awards this scholarship to Native Americans and is intended to help Native American students of any age, any tribe and in any state striving to get an education. All awards are judged based on financial need and academic achievement.
This scholarship is intended to help Native American college/university and technical school students of any age, any tribe, in any state at the undergraduate or graduate level. Graduate students are eligible; however, undergraduate students are given preference.
Applicants must be Native Americans (proof of American Indian blood is required by letter or proof papers) in financial need and have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher. There will be no exceptions.
This is a one-time $1,000 award.

Frances Crawford Marvin American Indian Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded once a year to one student. A candidate for this scholarship must be enrolled full time at a 2- or 4- year college or university.
Applicants must be Native Americans and proof of American Indian blood is required by letter or proof papers. Students must demonstrate financial need, academic achievement, and have a 3.25 GPA or higher. A recipient may reapply for this scholarship and be considered along with other members of the applicant pool.
The amount of scholarship is based on total return of the endowment, and may vary year to year.

Anne Trevarthen Memorial Scholarship
This one-time scholarship will be presented each April to a high-school senior who will be attending the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. Eligible applicants must demonstrate a personal connection to American Indian culture and traditions, as well as evidence of personal commitment to celebrating diversity and to bridging differences between disparate groups.
Preference will be given to students who demonstrate knowledge of and/or involvement with one of Virginia’s state-recognized Tribes. The amount of the scholarship is based on the annual return of the endowment, and may vary year to year.

The DAR Good Citizens program and scholarship contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The program is open to all senior class students enrolled in accredited public or private secondary schools. United States citizenship is not required.
The procedure for selecting a DAR Good Citizen is for the school faculty and students to select one senior who has demonstrated, to an outstanding degree, the qualities of a good citizen: dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. Only one student per year may be honored as a school's DAR Good Citizen. This student is then eligible, if he/she wishes, to enter the DAR Good Citizens scholarship contest. Program and essay contest materials are provided to a participating school by a local DAR chapter.
DAR Good Citizens who enter the scholarship contest are eligible for the awards beyond the chapter level. Each state winner receives a monetary award and a special state DAR Good Citizens pin and certificate. The national winner will be invited to Washington, D.C. to attend DAR Continental Congress and will be awarded a college scholarship. Each of the eight national division (multi-state groups) winners will also receive a cash award.
To apply: For more information students should contact their local high school. DAR Good Citizens who participate in the essay scholarship contest should return all contest materials to the local DAR chapter. This scholarship is not administered by the DAR Scholarship Committee.
